An Insider Guide to the Iconic Forsyth Park in Savannah, GA
A local’s guide to Savannah’s most iconic green space
There’s a reason Forsyth Park is on every must-visit list and if you’ve ever strolled beneath its canopy of Spanish moss or snapped a photo in front of the iconic fountain, you already know why. Beyond the postcards and Instagram moments, Forsyth is so much more than just a pretty backdrop. It’s truly the heartbeat of Savannah’s Historic District.
As a local, I’ve walked this park for the last 16 years from early-morning coffee runs to late-afternoon picnics, Saturday markets, and sunset strolls with my family. Forsyth is where Savannah slows down. It’s where you feel the hum of community, creativity, and history all wrapped into one beautiful green space.
What Makes Forsyth Park So Special?
The Iconic Fountain
Located at the north end of the park, the Forsyth Fountain was added in 1858 and has become one of the most photographed spots in all of Savannah. Forsyth Park was designed with a French-inspired vision of a central public garden, with the fountain intended to be the park’s show-stopping focal point (even if it isn’t perfectly centered). And while it feels unmistakably Savannah, the fountain wasn’t one of a kind. It was ordered from a catalogue, with sister fountains that can be found in places like New York, Peru, and even France.
The fountain gets dyed green for St. Patrick’s Day! It’s the perfect place for a romantic photo op or a slow stroll beneath the oaks. It’s also the perfect place for a surprise engagement.

Spanish Moss & Southern Charm
Forsyth is 30 acres of dreamy green space, draped in Spanish moss and flanked by historic mansions. The tree-lined paths make it ideal for walking, running, biking, or just finding a bench to breathe and people-watch. It’s the kind of place where you can’t help but slow down.
Saturday Farmers’ Market
If you’re in town on a Saturday morning, don’t miss the Forsyth Farmers’ Market — where you can enjoy local produce, fresh flowers, artisan vendors, and all the community charm. It’s one of my favorite weekend rituals.
Events, Concerts, & Culture
Throughout the year, Forsyth Park plays host to concerts, art festivals, food truck events, and more. From the Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival to Jazz in the Park, there’s always something magical happening.
The Fragrant Garden & Playground
Tucked into middle of the park you can find the fragrant garden (originally designed for the visually impaired but enjoyed by all) and a fantastic playground area for little ones. It’s ideal if you’re traveling with kids or just want to explore all corners of the park. You can also enjoy tennis and basketball courts at the south end of the park.
